About Olympos & Çıralı

Olympos was an ancient Lycian city, later part of the Roman world, and its remains lie along a small river that runs down to the sea. Today you walk among tombs, a theatre, baths and overgrown walls under pine trees, before the path opens onto the beach. The relaxed, alternative atmosphere and the wooden tree-house pensions have long made Olympos popular with younger and budget-minded travellers.

Çıralı, just over the headland, is a protected, development-restricted village with a calmer, family-friendly feel. Its beach is a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles, so building and lighting are limited to protect them. Above the village burn the natural gas flames of the Chimaera (Yanartaş), which have flickered from the rocks for thousands of years and are best visited after dark.

Together the two form one of the most distinctive stops on the Lycian coast: history, nature and beach within walking distance of each other.

The Transfer Route from AYT

From Antalya Airport the route heads west around the city and then follows the coastal highway towards Kemer and the Lycian shore. The total distance to Olympos and Çıralı is about 80 km and the drive normally takes around 75 minutes, depending on traffic and the exact location of your accommodation.

The first part of the journey runs on fast, modern road. Beyond Kemer the highway climbs into the Beydağları mountains, with pine forest on one side and glimpses of the Mediterranean on the other. The final stretch leaves the main road and descends a winding lane down to the coast, so the last few kilometres are slower but very scenic.

Your driver handles the whole door-to-door journey directly, dropping you at your pension, bungalow or hotel. Because Çıralı and Olympos are reached by separate access roads off the highway, it helps to give us your exact address when you book.

Vehicles, Prices & What's Included

Prices are per vehicle and one way, not per person. An economy car for up to three passengers starts from €33, while a Mercedes Vito minivan, suitable for larger groups, families or extra luggage, starts from €43. The fare is fixed when you book, so it does not change with traffic or the time of day.

Every transfer includes a free meet and greet: your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign. We track your flight, so if you land early or late the driver adjusts and you are not charged extra for normal delays. Child seats are provided free of charge on request, which is useful on this longer, partly mountainous route.

There is no prepayment required. You pay the driver directly at the end of the trip, in cash or by card, and the agreed price is all you pay.

Practical Tips

Because Olympos and Çıralı are about 75 minutes from the airport, it is worth arranging your transfer in advance rather than looking for a taxi on arrival, especially for late-night flights. Bring any essential medication and a bottle of water in your hand luggage for the ride.

There is no luggage limit on the price, but if you are travelling with bulky bags, surfboards or several suitcases, choose the Vito so everything fits comfortably. We can also arrange your return transfer to the airport; book it together with your arrival and we will plan the pickup time around your flight, allowing for the journey back.

Çıralı and Olympos are quiet, low-rise destinations with few large shops, so it is wise to bring cash and any specific supplies you need. Nearby Kemer, around halfway back towards Antalya, offers larger supermarkets and more nightlife if you want a day trip.

Visiting the Ruins, Beach & Chimaera

Most visitors come for three things: the ancient ruins of Olympos, the long natural beach shared by both villages, and the Chimaera flames. The Olympos archaeological site charges a small entrance fee and you reach the beach by walking through it; allow a couple of hours to wander the ruins at a relaxed pace.

The beach itself is open, undeveloped and backed by mountains, with no big resorts directly on the sand. It is a turtle nesting area, so swimming and sunbathing by day are fine, but the shore is kept dark and undisturbed at night. Bring shoes for the pebbles, water, and shade, as facilities are limited.

The Chimaera is a short uphill walk from Çıralı and is most atmospheric in the evening, when the flames glow against the dark hillside. A torch and sturdy footwear are recommended. Children usually enjoy both the ruins and the flames, making the area a good family destination as well as a backpacker favourite.
