Pamukkale lies about 230 kilometres northwest of Antalya, near the city of Denizli. The most common route follows the D650 inland, climbing through the Taurus foothills before descending into the Menderes valley. Wear comfortable shoes for the ruins; the site is large and walking between monuments under the sun adds up quickly across a visit.

Within the Hierapolis grounds lies Cleopatra's Pool, a natural thermal spring where you can swim among submerged marble columns toppled by ancient earthquakes. The water stays a pleasant 36 degrees Celsius year-round and is rich in minerals long believed to be good for the skin and circulation. Swimming here requires a separate ticket on top of the main entrance fee, and lockers are available. It's a memorable, slightly surreal experience floating over genuine Roman ruins. The pool can get busy at midday, so an early dip is calmer. Bring swimwear, a towel and flip-flops for the changing area.

A single combined ticket grants entry to the travertines, Hierapolis and the museum, with Cleopatra's Pool charged separately if you want to swim. In summer the south gate opens around 6:30 am and the site stays open late, while winter hours are shorter, roughly 8 am to 6 pm. Peak crowds build between late morning and mid-afternoon, so arriving at opening rewards you with thinner crowds, cooler stone and better photos.
