Antalya Weather by Month: A Practical Climate Guide

Antalya has a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The Taurus Mountains rising just behind the city trap warmth along the coast and block cold northern air, which is why the region stays comfortable when inland Anatolia freezes.

The city averages around 300 sunny days a year. Almost all rain falls between November and March, often as short, heavy downpours rather than all-day drizzle. Summer, by contrast, can pass with virtually no rain at all.

Because the sea holds its heat, autumn stays swimmable long after the air begins to cool. This lag is key to understanding why September and October remain popular beach months.

Spring is one of the best times to visit Antalya. March is still cool and changeable, with highs around 17-19C and occasional rain, but by April daytime temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 20s and the countryside is lush with wildflowers.

May feels like early summer, with highs near 26-28C, long sunny days and warming evenings. The sea, however, is still fresh in March and April, roughly 17-19C, only becoming pleasantly swimmable for many travellers by late May.

This is prime season for sightseeing, the ancient cities of Perge, Aspendos and Termessos, the Old Town (Kaleici) and waterfalls, without the peak heat. Pack layers: T-shirts for the day, a light jacket for cooler mornings and evenings.

Summer is reliably hot and sunny, with highs of 31-35C in July and August and very warm nights. Heatwaves can push temperatures higher, and humidity along the coast makes it feel hotter still. Rain is rare to non-existent.

The sea is at its warmest, around 27-29C, feeling almost like a warm bath in August. This is peak beach and resort season for the whole coastline, from Lara and Konyaalti in the city to Belek, Side, Kemer and Alanya.

Pack light, breathable clothing, strong sun protection, a hat and sunglasses. Plan demanding sightseeing for early morning or late afternoon, and stay hydrated. Antalya's winter is mild by European standards. Daytime highs typically sit around 15-17C, and frost or snow on the coast is very unusual, though the nearby Taurus peaks are snow-capped and host ski resorts such as Saklikent.

This is the wettest period, with most of the year's rain falling now, so showers and grey spells are likely, interspersed with bright, pleasant days. The sea is too cold for most swimmers, around 16-17C.

Winter is low season: hotels and flights are cheaper, sites are peaceful, and it is excellent for culture, city walks and even a day on the slopes. Pack a warm layer, a waterproof jacket and an umbrella, alongside lighter clothes for sunny afternoons.

Match your packing to the month. For summer, prioritise sun protection, swimwear, sandals and breathable fabrics. For spring and autumn, pack versatile layers you can add or remove as mornings and evenings cool. For winter, bring a waterproof jacket, a warm mid-layer and an umbrella, plus comfortable shoes for wet pavements.
