The Best Time to Visit Antalya: A Season-by-Season Guide

Antalya has a classic Mediterranean climate: long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The city sits between the Taurus Mountains and the sea, which keeps winters relatively gentle compared with inland Turkey.

Summer (June to September) is reliably hot and almost rainless, with temperatures often climbing above 35 degrees Celsius in July and August. Spring and autumn are warm and pleasant, ideal for combining beach time with sightseeing. Winter is cool and wetter, with most rain falling between November and February, though sunny days are still common.

Thanks to this pattern, Antalya offers a swimming season that stretches roughly from May to October, far longer than most European destinations.

Summer is the most popular time to visit Antalya and the best window for a pure beach holiday. Sea temperatures climb from the mid 20s in June to around 28 degrees Celsius in August, making the water warm enough for hours of swimming.

Expect intense sunshine, very little rain and long days. July and August are the hottest months, sometimes uncomfortably so for sightseeing in the middle of the day, so many visitors save ruins and walking tours for early morning or late afternoon.

This is also high season, meaning the busiest beaches, fullest hotels and highest prices. Book accommodation and your airport transfer well in advance, as demand at Antalya Airport peaks during these months.

Spring is many travellers' favourite season in Antalya. By April the landscape is lush and green, wildflowers are out, and daytime temperatures are comfortably warm, typically in the low to mid 20s, climbing higher by May.

The sea is still cool in April but warms steadily through May, when swimming becomes pleasant for many people. Crowds are thinner than in summer and prices are generally lower, making spring excellent value.

This is a wonderful time to explore the old town of Kaleici, visit ancient sites like Perge, Aspendos and Side, or take a day trip to the Duden and Kursunlu waterfalls without battling the summer heat or crowds.

Autumn may be the best all-round time to visit Antalya, especially September and early October. The summer heat eases slightly but the sea stays warm, often around 26 to 27 degrees Celsius well into October, so beach days remain excellent.

September still feels like summer with calmer crowds as families return home after the school holidays. By late October and November the weather cools, the first rains arrive and the season winds down, but you will find lower prices and a relaxed atmosphere.

This season suits travellers who want warm swimming, pleasant sightseeing temperatures and better value than peak summer, all in one trip.

Winter in Antalya is mild by European standards, with daytime temperatures often between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius, though it is the wettest and least predictable time of year. The sea is too cold for most swimmers, usually around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius.

This is low season, so hotels and flights are at their cheapest and major sites are wonderfully quiet. It is a great time for culture, city breaks, shopping and exploring Kaleici without crowds. Remarkably, the nearby Saklikent ski area in the Taurus Mountains lets you ski and reach the coast on the same day.

Pack layers and a rain jacket, and treat winter as a sightseeing rather than a beach trip.

Antalya Airport is one of the busiest in Turkey and serves resort areas spread along a long coastline, from Lara and Konyaalti near the city to Belek, Side, Kemer and Alanya further out. Travel times range from about 15 minutes to the city up to two hours or more for distant resorts.
