Antalya Blue Flag Beaches: The Complete Guide

The Blue Flag is an international eco-certification run by the Foundation for Environmental Education and awarded annually to beaches and marinas that meet around 33 strict criteria. These cover four pillars: bathing water quality, environmental management, safety and services, and environmental education. Seawater is sampled and laboratory-tested roughly every two weeks throughout the season, so the result is current, not a one-off. Crucially, the flag must be re-earned every single year, so a beach cannot coast on past glory. For travellers it is a simple, reliable shorthand: clean, tested water, trained lifeguards, first aid, toilets, showers and proper waste management. Antalya alone accounts for around 40 percent of Turkey's Blue Flag beaches.

Konyaalti is Antalya's flagship city beach, a long pebble shoreline running beneath the dramatic backdrop of the Taurus Mountains. Its Blue Flag sections are clean, well-organised and easy to reach, sitting just a short tram or taxi ride from Kaleici old town. The seafront promenade has been beautifully redeveloped with cafes, showers, changing cabins, sun-bed rentals and accessible ramps. The water is famously clear and deepens fairly quickly, which suits confident swimmers; the pebbles mean water shoes are handy. Lifeguards patrol in season, roughly May to October. From Antalya Airport it is around 20 to 25 kilometres, so a private transfer drops you near your hotel in about 35 to 45 minutes without dragging luggage onto the tram.

Lara, east of the city centre, is Antalya's glamorous sandy stretch, lined with large five-star resorts and the famous themed hotels. Unlike pebbly Konyaalti, Lara offers soft golden sand that families with small children appreciate, and several public and hotel sections carry the Blue Flag. Facilities are excellent: sun beds, umbrellas, beach bars, showers and toilets, with gradual shallow entry in many spots. The public Lara Beach Park is a good free-access option. Summers here are hot and busy, peaking from June to September. Lara sits very close to Antalya Airport, only about 10 to 15 kilometres, making it one of the quickest beach areas to reach, typically 15 to 25 minutes by car or private transfer.

Belek is Turkey's premium resort and golf belt, and its long sandy coastline holds numerous Blue Flag beaches, mostly tied to luxury hotels but with public stretches too. The sand is fine, the entry gentle, and loggerhead turtles nest on protected sections in summer. Side, further east near Manavgat, combines Blue Flag sand beaches with ancient Roman ruins right by the shore, plus the sweeping West and East beaches. Both areas are family-friendly with full facilities, water sports and shallow swimming. Belek is roughly 30 to 40 kilometres from Antalya Airport, around 35 to 45 minutes, while Side is about 60 to 75 kilometres, typically just over an hour by transfer.

Alanya, at Antalya's eastern end, leads the entire province with the highest number of Blue Flag beaches, and its star is Cleopatra Beach (Kleopatra Plaji). This famous golden-sand crescent below the castle headland is prized for fine, soft sand and clear, shallow turquoise water, making it ideal for families. Legend says the sand was shipped in for Cleopatra herself. Facilities are extensive: sun beds, showers, cafes, lifeguards and water sports. Alanya's old harbour and Damlatas areas add more certified shores. Alanya is the farthest of these areas from Antalya Airport at roughly 120 to 135 kilometres, around two hours by car, so a fixed-price transfer with flight tracking saves real hassle on arrival.

Blue Flag status guarantees a baseline of facilities: lifeguards in season, first aid, clean toilets, showers, changing cabins, drinking water, waste sorting and disabled access at many sites. The swimming season runs roughly May to October, with the warmest sea from July to September and pleasant, quieter shoulder months in May, June and October. Sun beds and umbrellas are usually rented for a small daily fee on public beaches; hotel beaches are typically free for guests. Public transport reaches Konyaalti and Lara easily, but for Belek, Side and Alanya a private airport transfer is far simpler: book by WhatsApp, get meet and greet, a fixed price per vehicle, free child seats and flight tracking, so you reach the sand directly without changing buses.
