Antalya Rafting & Jeep Safari Guide

Köprülü Canyon sits about 90 km northeast of Antalya, roughly a two-hour drive, near Beşkonak village in the Manavgat district. The standard trip runs 12 to 14 km down the Köprüçay River and takes around two to three hours on the water. Tours almost always include transfer, all gear (helmet, life jacket, paddle), a trained guide in every raft, accident insurance and a riverside lunch, usually grilled chicken or trout. You raft in small groups of six to eight, with safety briefings before you start. It is the headline activity of the region and easy to combine with other adventures on a single day out.

Despite its thrilling reputation, Köprülü rafting is beginner-friendly. The rapids are mostly Grade II to III, with calm stretches between them, so no experience or strong swimming skills are needed. Water is cold year-round, around 10 to 14°C, fed by mountain springs, which is refreshing in summer heat. Children from roughly age seven and older travellers in good health can join calmer routes; operators set minimum ages and may run gentler family floats. Always wear your helmet and life jacket, listen to the guide and keep both hands on the paddle. Reputable companies cap raft numbers and provide safety kayakers on the water.

A jeep safari swaps water for dust, climbing into the Taurus Mountains by open 4x4. Routes wind through pine forest, fruit gardens and rocky trails up to around 900 metres, passing traditional villages such as Yumaklar where you visit a village house. Many tours stop for a swim at the Uçansu Waterfall and a Turkish village lunch. Expect roughly 80 km of driving, much of it on rough off-road tracks, with splashy river crossings and water-pistol fun along the way. It is bumpy and gloriously messy rather than technical, making it a hit with families, though small children should be securely seated.

The adventure season runs from April to late October, matching Antalya's warm, dry summer. Rafting peaks from May to September when snowmelt keeps the river flowing and air temperatures make the cold water enjoyable; spring brings higher, livelier water, while late summer is gentler. Jeep safaris run across the same months, but the mountains stay a few degrees cooler than the coast, so mornings can feel fresh. Avoid the rare rainy days when tracks turn slippery. July and August are hottest and busiest, so book ahead. In the cooler shoulder months bring an extra layer for the breezy canyon and mountain stops.

For rafting, wear a swimsuit under quick-dry clothes you don't mind soaking, plus secure footwear: river shoes, old trainers or strapped sandals, never flip-flops or bare feet. Bring a towel, dry change of clothes, sunscreen and a waterproof case or leave valuables in the bus. For jeep safari, expect plenty of dust, so pack sunglasses, a hat and a bandana or scarf to cover your face, along with a swimsuit and towel for the waterfall. A light jacket helps on cooler mountain stretches. Glasses can be lost overboard, so use a strap. Many operators sell waterproof photos and videos of your run.

Both trips are budget-friendly adventures, with rafting typically the cheapest, then jeep safari, and combo packages costing a little more. Prices usually cover hotel pickup, equipment, guide, insurance and lunch; extras like photos, buggy or zipline add-ons and drinks are paid separately. Pickup times are early, often 6:30 to 8:30 am, from Antalya centre, Lara, Belek, Side, Kemer or Alanya, with longer rides from far resorts.
