How to Get from Antalya Airport to Kalkan

Kalkan sits on the western Mediterranean coast, in the Kas district of Antalya province, about 170 km from Antalya Airport (AYT) by road. It is a small, upmarket resort built on a steep hillside above a pretty harbour, with most villas and boutique hotels arranged to catch the sea view.

The drive to Kalkan is one of the most scenic airport transfers in Turkey, but also one of the longest. After leaving Antalya the route joins the D400, which runs inland past Kumluca, then returns to the coast at Finike before threading through Demre, the home of ancient Myra and Saint Nicholas.

Between Finike and Demre, and again between Kas and Kalkan, the highway hugs the cliffs in a series of tight bends that slow the pace and reward you with sweeping sea views. Plan for about 2.5 to 3 hours in normal conditions.

Summer traffic, road works and the simple winding nature of the route can add time. If anyone in your group is prone to travel sickness, the curves near Kas are worth knowing about in advance.

That said, the D400 demands concentration. The cliffside bends between Kas and Kalkan are steep and busy in summer, parking in Kalkan's narrow old town is very limited, and the streets are pedestrian-heavy in the evenings. After a long flight, tackling nearly three hours of winding road at night is not ideal.

Many visitors compromise by taking a private transfer in and out and renting a car for a day or two locally if they want to roam. That avoids the tiring arrival drive while still giving flexibility once you have settled into Kalkan.
