Antalya Airport to Hadrian's Gate Transfer

Hadrian's Gate is a triumphal marble arch built around AD 130 to honour the visit of the Roman emperor Hadrian to the city, then known as Attaleia. With its three matching archways it became known locally as Üçkapılar, the Three Gates, and it is one of the few parts of the old Roman city walls still standing today.

The gate is richly decorated with columns, carved capitals and coffered ceilings, framed by two towers from different eras on either side. It marks the main pedestrian entrance into Kaleiçi, the atmospheric old quarter of narrow lanes, Ottoman houses, cafes and the harbour below.

Visiting the gate itself is quick and free, as it stands on a public street. Most travellers pause here for photos and then wander on into Kaleiçi, so it works well as the gateway to a half-day or full-day stroll through old Antalya.

The journey from Antalya Airport to Hadrian's Gate covers roughly 15 km and takes about 22 minutes in normal traffic. Your driver leaves the airport and heads west toward the city centre, following the main roads that skirt the coast and lead into the heart of Antalya.

The route runs on good, well-signed city roads, passing the edge of the modern centre before reaching the streets around Kaleiçi. As you approach the old town you catch glimpses of palm-lined avenues and the Mediterranean, and the gate sits where the new city meets the historic quarter.

From arrivals to the drop-off near the gate or your hotel, everything is handled door to door. Because central Kaleiçi is partly pedestrian, your driver sets you down at the nearest accessible point and helps with your bags. You will not need to find a taxi or agree a fare on arrival, as the price is fixed when you book.

Return transfers back to Antalya Airport are easy to arrange at the same fixed per-vehicle rate, which is useful as the old town's narrow lanes make hailing a taxi on the spot harder. Early morning and late afternoon are the most pleasant times to see the gate and walk Kaleiçi, with softer light and fewer crowds.

The gate sits beside Karaalioğlu Park and a short walk from the old harbour, the Yivli Minaret and the Antalya bazaar, so it is easy to combine it with a longer wander through the historic centre.

Hadrian's Gate dates from the Roman period, built in the 2nd century AD when Attaleia was an important harbour city. For long stretches of its history the arch was walled up inside the later city defences, which is partly why it survived. It was cleared and restored in modern times so visitors can again walk through its three arches.

Look for the original marble paving beneath the central arch, where you can still see grooves worn by ancient cart wheels, and the two flanking towers, one Roman and one rebuilt in the Seljuk era. The decoration on the upper arches is well preserved and rewards a close look.

The gate is open to the public at all hours with no entrance fee, as it sits on a city street. Allow around fifteen to twenty minutes for the gate itself, and more time if you plan to explore Kaleiçi. It is flat, central and easy to reach on foot.
