Antalya Airport to Perge Ancient City Transfer

Perge (Perge Antik Kenti) was a leading city of ancient Pamphylia, with roots reaching back well before the Hellenistic period and a golden age under Roman rule. As you enter, you pass the round Hellenistic gate towers and a Roman gateway, then walk the broad colonnaded main street whose central water channel once ran the length of the city.

The ruins are unusually complete for a site of this size. You can see the large stadium, the Roman theatre, the agora marketplace, the Roman baths and a monumental nymphaeum fountain, with column rows and carved fragments still standing across the open ground.

Perge is also tied to the history of early Christianity, as the Apostle Paul is recorded as having visited. Many of the finest statues found here are now displayed in the Antalya Museum in the city, so the site and the museum complement each other well.

Antalya Airport sits on the eastern side of the city, and Perge lies inland near Aksu in the same direction, so this is one of the shorter transfers from AYT. The route follows main roads through the Aksu district, with flat farmland and the Beydağları mountains on the horizon for much of the way.

The distance is about 22 km and the usual private-transfer time is around 28 minutes. In heavy summer traffic or at busy airport hours it can take a little longer, but the roads are good and direct almost the whole way.

Door to door, your driver meets you inside the terminal, helps with the bags and takes you straight to the entrance of the site or to your hotel afterwards. There is no changing of vehicles, and because the fare is fixed per car you pay nothing extra if traffic is slow.

Two vehicle types serve this route. An economy car costs from €16 one way and suits a couple or small family with normal luggage. A Vito minivan costs from €21 one way and gives more room for larger groups, extra suitcases or a buggy.

Prices are per vehicle rather than per person, and they are fixed for the journey, so the figure quoted is the figure you pay no matter how many seats are filled. No prepayment is needed; you settle directly with the driver in cash or by card at the time of travel.

Every booking includes a free meet and greet with a name sign at arrivals, flight tracking so the driver adjusts to delays or early landings, and free child seats on request. The service runs around the clock, so late-night and very early flights are covered.

Perge is a large open-air site with very little shade, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen, and wear sturdy shoes for the uneven ancient paving. Early morning or late afternoon are the most comfortable times in summer, when the light is also best for photographs along the colonnaded street.

If you are visiting on the way to or from your hotel, ask the driver to wait or to drop you and arrange a return pickup, or book the return leg at the same time. For the trip back to the airport, give your pickup address and flight number and the driver will allow enough margin for check-in.

Perge pairs naturally with the nearby ancient sites of Aspendos and Sillyon and with the Antalya Museum, where many of its statues are kept. A focused visit takes around one and a half to two hours, longer if you explore every corner.

Perge grew from an early Pamphylian settlement into a wealthy Roman city, and most of what you see today dates from its Roman peak in the first to third centuries AD. The twin round towers of the Hellenistic gate are among its oldest surviving structures and frame the entrance dramatically.

Walking the colonnaded street, you can picture the shops behind the columns, the water channel down the middle and the public buildings clustered around the agora. The stadium and theatre, just outside the main walls, show how large the city's population once was.

Entry tickets are bought at the gate or online and are separate from your transfer. There is little on-site shade or shelter, so plan around the heat and carry your own water. Allow at least an hour and a half to do the main monuments justice.
