Antalya Airport to Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) Transfer

Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) is a five-storey octagonal tower built of red brick that stands beside the old harbour of Alanya. It was completed in 1226 during the reign of the Anatolian Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, who brought the architect Ebu Ali Reha from Aleppo to design it. The tower rises about 33 metres high and roughly 12.5 metres wide, and it takes its name from the reddish brick used in its upper sections.

Its purpose was military: it defended the harbour and the adjoining Tersane shipyard, and it remains the best-preserved Seljuk building in Alanya. A large cistern sits in the middle of the structure, and 85 steps lead to the roof.

Today part of the tower houses an ethnographic section of the Alanya Museum. From the top you get sweeping views over the city walls, the peninsula and the Mediterranean. Comfortable shoes help on the stairs, and opening hours are longer in summer than in winter.

The journey from Antalya Airport to Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) covers roughly 128 km and takes about 92 minutes in normal traffic. Your driver leaves the airport and follows the coastal highway eastward, passing the Side and Manavgat areas before reaching Alanya.

From the tower a walkable route leads to the Tersane shipyard and along the city walls, while the castle of Alanya Kalesi crowns the peninsula above. The old harbour, beaches and the bustling town centre are all close by.

Allow at least a couple of hours to climb the tower and wander the harbour area. Check current opening hours before you go, as they are longer in the summer season and shorter in winter, and the rooftop view rewards a clear day.
