Antalya Airport to Termessos Transfer

Termessos was a city of the Pisidians, a fiercely independent mountain people, and sits on a natural plateau guarded by steep slopes and the peak of Güllük Dağı (Solymos). Its defensive position was so strong that Alexander the Great bypassed it in 333 BC rather than attempt a siege, a story that still draws visitors today.

Most of the surviving ruins date from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The highlight is a well-preserved theatre with a stunning view over the valley and mountains, alongside temples, a gymnasium, cisterns, city walls and a large necropolis of scattered, broken sarcophagi.

Reaching the main ruins involves an uphill walk on rocky paths from the car park, which is part of the appeal for those who enjoy combining history with a mountain hike. The cool forest air and panoramic views make Termessos one of the most atmospheric ancient sites near Antalya.

Antalya Airport lies on the eastern side of the city, while Termessos is in the mountains to the west, so your route skirts the city and then climbs inland. You leave the coastal plain behind and follow good main roads toward Korkuteli before turning up into Güllük Dağı National Park.

The distance is about 35 km and the usual private-transfer time is around 45 minutes. The final stretch winds uphill through pine forest, with the road gaining height steadily, so expect bends and beautiful mountain scenery rather than a fast highway run.

Door to door, your driver meets you inside the terminal, helps with the bags and takes you straight to the national park, or to your hotel first if you prefer. There is no changing of vehicles, and because the fare is fixed per car you pay no extra if the climb or traffic is slow.

Two vehicle types serve this route. An economy car costs from €20 one way and suits a couple or small family with normal luggage. A Vito minivan costs from €26 one way and gives more room for larger groups, extra suitcases or a comfortable day trip up to the mountains.

Prices are per vehicle rather than per person, and they are fixed for the journey, so the figure quoted is the figure you pay no matter how many seats are filled. No prepayment is needed; you settle directly with the driver in cash or by card at the time of travel.

Every booking includes a free meet and greet with a name sign at arrivals, flight tracking so the driver adjusts to delays or early landings, and free child seats on request. The service runs around the clock, so late-night and very early flights are covered.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the walk up to the theatre and ruins is steep and rocky and there are few facilities inside the site. A hat, sun cream and a light layer help, since the mountain air can be cool even when the coast is hot.

If you are heading back to the airport later or staying nearby, you can book the return leg at the same time. Give your pickup address and flight number, and the driver will collect you with enough margin for the drive down and check-in.

Morning visits are best, before the midday heat and with clearer light for photos and the long valley views. Termessos pairs well with central Antalya, the old town of Kaleiçi and the Antalya Museum, all of which sit between the site and the airport, so it is easy to add a stop on the way.

Termessos grew powerful in the Hellenistic age and remained important under Roman rule, when its citizens were granted a degree of independence rarely given to a small mountain city. Earthquakes and a damaged water system are thought to have led to its gradual abandonment in late antiquity, leaving the ruins to the forest.

The site is part of Güllük Dağı (Termessos) National Park, so entry usually involves a park or site fee; charges can change, so it is worth checking on arrival. Allow at least two to three hours to walk up, see the theatre, temples and tombs, and come back down at a relaxed pace.

Keep to marked paths, watch your footing on loose stone and keep children close near the open theatre, cliff edges and ancient cisterns. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons, offering green surroundings, wildflowers and cooler walking than high summer.
