Mahmutlar also makes a practical base for exploring the wider Alanya Region, with the historic centre of Alanya, its castle and harbour only a short drive west and the Dim River and Dim Cave in the hills behind the town.

The drive from Antalya Airport to Mahmutlar covers about 135 km and takes roughly 100 minutes in normal traffic. After leaving the terminal, your driver joins the main coastal highway heading east towards Serik, Manavgat and Alanya, a well-maintained dual carriageway that carries most of the region's traffic.

Much of the journey runs close to the Mediterranean, with the Taurus Mountains rising inland to the north and stretches of pine forest, banana and citrus groves and sea views along the way. Mahmutlar lies just beyond Alanya itself, so the highway carries you past the city before reaching the town and your specific hotel or apartment.

The beach is a central part of a holiday in Mahmutlar, running for several kilometres along the town beside a wide seafront promenade. The shore is a mix of sand and small pebbles, so water shoes are useful, while the sea stays clear and turns gradually deeper from the edge.

The main beach season runs roughly from late spring through to autumn, when the Mediterranean is warm and the days are reliably sunny. High summer brings the hottest, busiest weather, while late spring and early autumn are quieter and still very pleasant for swimming and sunbathing.

For a beach day it helps to bring sun protection, water and beach shoes for the pebbled sections. Many stretches have sunbeds, cafés and water sports nearby, and the promenade behind the sand is lined with places to eat and rest.
